National Cause Celebrations

There are many causes recognized across the nation and some that are core to our beliefs at Recovery Idaho. We will be celebrating, and hope you will too.

Recovery Month: September

  • Recovery Month celebrates the gains made by those in recovery from substance use and mental health, just as we celebrate improvements made by those who are managing other health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and heart disease.
  • Each September, Recovery Month works to promote and support new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the emergence of a strong and proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and community members across the nation who make recovery in all its forms possible.

Mental Health Awareness Month: May

  • Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in the U.S. since 1949. Every year during the month of May, NAMI Idaho (National Alliance on Mental Illness) joins the national movement to raise awareness about mental health. Together, we fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for policies that support the millions of people in the U.S. affected by mental illness.

National Youth Substance Use Prevention Month: October

  • In October, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) recognizes Youth Substance Use Prevention Month. The need for prevention remains great. Studies show that the earlier in life a young person starts using alcohol or other drugs, the greater their lifetime risk of misuse or addiction.
  • According to SAMHSA’s 2020 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 8.2 percent of adolescents aged 12 to 17 drank alcohol in the past month, and 13.8 percent of adolescents aged 12 to 17 used illicit drugs in the past year.
