About

What is Recovery Idaho?

Recovery Idaho is Idaho’s original recovery community organization (RCO). It is a private, independent, non-profit organization, dedicated to supporting Idaho’s recovery community. We work on their behalf to promote recovery-focused policy advocacy activities, support community education and outreach programs, and promote peerbased recovery support services. Recovery Idaho is led by people in long-term recovery, their families, friends, allies, and recovery professionals, reflecting diverse religious, spiritual, and secular pathways of recovery
While Recovery Idaho works with local and state government, as well as private industry, Recovery Idaho maintains independence in our decision-making, program development, recovery services, and advocacy efforts. We serve as a bridge between diverse communities of recovery, the addiction treatment community, governmental agencies, the criminal justice system, the larger network of health and human services providers and systems and the broader recovery support resources of the extended community. Through the leadership of our volunteers, we retain our commitment to serving as an authentic voice for Idaho’s diverse recovery communities. Our board represents local recovery communities from across the state, either on behalf of a recovery community center, as well as individuals who are comfortable self-identifying as folks in long-term recovery, and our allies.

What is a pathway to recovery?

A pathway to recovery from substance use disorders (SUD) involves multiple dimensions and approaches, reflecting the diverse needs and experiences of individuals. Recovery is a dynamic process that encompasses behavioral, psychological, social, and environmental factors. Key pathways include participation in 12-step programs, peer support, identity transformation, psychological and spiritual growth, holistic approaches, technological innovations, and customized treatment plans. These diverse strategies highlight the importance of a comprehensive and person-centered approach to recovery

What is a recovery community center?

A recovery community center (RCC) is a supportive, non-clinical environment designed to foster recovery from substance use disorders and other addictive behaviors. These centers provide a welcoming space where individuals can connect with others who share similar experiences, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual support. They can offer a variety of services, including peer-led support groups, educational workshops, skill-building activities, and recreational events, all aimed at promoting long-term recovery and enhancing the overall well-being of participants. Recovery community centers often collaborate with local organizations to provide access to resources such as housing, employment, and healthcare, ensuring a holistic approach to recovery. The emphasis is on peer support, empowerment, and the cultivation of a recovery-oriented lifestyle, creating a safe haven where individuals can rebuild their lives, gain new skills, and develop strong, supportive networks. These centers play a crucial role in the broader recovery ecosystem by advocating for recovery-friendly policies and reducing the stigma associated with addiction, ultimately helping individuals to thrive in their communities.
